Laboratory techniques for maintaining cultures of the monarch butterfly

Abstract

Oviposition cages, flight cages, and rearing containers are described. Method of feeding adults and larvae are detailed, and formulae for making synthetic media for larval diets are included. Adults can be kept alive in a state of reduced animation for more than 5 months, at low temperatures, or for over a month while sealed in envelopes and stored at 16[degree] C.
