Abstract

This research was conducted in East Sinjai District, Sinjai Regency, South Sulawesi Province from April to May 2022. This study aims to determine the actual and potential land suitability classes of rice plants, their limiting factors and potential development of paddy fields in East Sinjai District, Sinjai Regency. This research method is the FAO method by combining Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. The results showed that the actual land suitability of East Sinjai sub-district, Sinjai district, namely S2, S3 and N1 with limiting factors of soil texture, effective depth, erosion hazard soil drainage and slopes. While the potential land suitability classes are S2 (fairly suitable) and S3 (marginally appropriate) with the limiting factors of soil texture, effective depth, surface rock, rock outcrop, erosion hazard and slope. Based on the results of the Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis of the availability of land for rice fields in East Sinjai sub-district, Sinjai district, the current area of rice fields is 2,397.86 Ha and the area of land that has the potential and is suitable for the development of paddy fields is 2,824.86 Ha.
