Abstract

Precise modifications of genomes have been one of the biggest goals in the fields of biotechnology and biomedical research. Recent discovery of TALE (transcription activator-like effectors) and the engineering of customized TALEN (transcription activator-like effector nucleases) allowed rapid genome editing in a variety of cell types and different model organisms. TALEN are molecular scissors used to induce a wide range of specific and efficient genomic modifications. TALEN promise to have profound impacts on biological and medical research over the coming years. © 2014 médecine/sciences - Inserm.
