Abstract
Ponthieva brenesii (Orchidaceae) and Piper xanthostachyum (Piperaceae) are reported for the first time in the State of Veracruz, Mexico. The first species is very rare, and has a restricted distribution range previously limited within Mexico to Cuernavaca, Morelos and Teziutlán, Puebla. The second species is a climbing herb, uncommon growth habit in the genus Piper. Previously, this species had only been found in Chiapas and Oaxaca. Both species were found in a montane cloud forest of central Veracruz.
