Abstract
This work explores in a marginal and border area of the Spanish empire, the province of Maracaibo in the 18th century, the relationships of some groups that fluctuated between incomplete subordination and resistance, with Spanish Monarchy. The case of the «motilones» is interesting because it tests adaptation, resistance strategies and occasional mediations between the actors involved.
