Abstract

ML3X2, ML2X2, MLX2 [M = Ni2+, Co2+; L = 2-(N-isopropylaminomethyl)pyridine (I), 2-(N,N-dimethylaminomethyl)pyridine, 2-(N,N-diethylaminomethyl)pyridine; X = ClO4-, Cl-, Br-, I-, NCS-] were prepd. by reaction of MX2 with L in EtOH. Color, magnetic moment, cond. in PhNO2, m.p., electronic absorption max. (from reflectance spectra) are tabulated. ML3X2 and most of the ML2X2 complexes have octahedral structure. Co2+ has a coordination no. of 5 in CoL2Br2.EtOH and CoL2I2, where L = I. The CoLX2 complexes have tetrahedral structure. Ni in the NiLX2 complexes may have a coordination no. >4 owing to halide bridging.
