Abstract

Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz had a great knowledge of Lope and Calderón's theatre. But when she was about to write two dramatic plays for the palace, she chose the manner proposed by Lope's Comedia nueva. That precisely means that she gave priority to the dramatic text over the spectacle text. This attitude implies that she does not follow the spectacular aspects of court comedy, although she was very skillful in such plays as we can see in her preludes and eucharistic plays.
