Abstract

Milker s nodules are a zoonosis that occurs on the hands and is caused by the Paravaccinia virus. The reservoir is cows. Infection occurs through contact with the animals or contact surfaces. After an incubation period of approx. one week, erythema first appears clinically, followed by small papules on the hands. As the disease progresses, a surrounding white ring appears, followed by the formation of secretions and finally scar-free healing. The diagnosis is made on the basis of the patient s medical history and clinic. Wearing appropriate protective clothing (gloves) protects against infection.
