Abstract

Based on the current status of gas recovery and utilization in iron and steel industry of China, the amount of affluent gas in BF-BOF route by the indexes of gas recovery and gas consumption per ton steel is estimated. The measures of improving gas generation and utilization are listed as follows: increasing the gas recovery via perfecting gas recovery technique; decreasing the gas consumption by using such technologies as preheating the combustion air/fuel, high temperature air combustion and continuous casting process; setting up energy management centre to enhance gas generation and consumption in monitoring, predicting and managing. Focusing on the utilization of excess gases, the paper puts forward utilization strategy of excess gases and discusses the models in the self-generation of electricity in iron and steel works of different sizes and the regeneration feasibility of gases from the aspect of power generation by gas as well as chemical utilization.
