Abstract

Changes in the communities structure of the benthic macroinvertebrates of the River Cares (León, Spain) have been studied during one year.Flow variation and human disturbance, basically due to tourism, were the main factors controlling the organization of the macrobenthos communities.Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA) has shown the effect of the spatial and temporal patterns on the ordenation of the samples and their communities. The Chandler, Verneaux & Tuffery and BMWP' biotic indexes have been used. The first one has shown to be the most sensitive to small variations of the water quality.
