Abstract

Rayleigh's principle is used to derive expressions for the group velocities of Love and Rayleigh waves without numerical differentiation. It is also used to find expressions, accurate to the first order, for the effects of small changes of the elastic properties on the wave and group velocities. Copyright © 1961, Wiley Blackwell.
