Abstract

The α/γ equilibrium in the ternary Fe-Mn-AI system was experimentally investigated at 1 073, 1 273 and 1 373 K. The tie-lines in the (α + γ) two-phase field were determined at 1 273 K by measuring the alloy content of the individual phases of equilibrated two-phase specimens by means of X-ray microanalysis. These experimental results were compared with the calculated α/γ phase boundaries using a regular solution model for the ternary system which was extended from the constituent binary systems. It was found that the calculated results were in reasonable agreement with the experimental measurements In the low manganese contents, approximately less than 10 wt%. © 1989, The Iron and Steel Institute of Japan.
