KONFLIK SOSIAL DALAM NOVEL MARANSI

Abstract

This research described the forms of social conflict and plot in the novel Maryam written by Okky Madasari. The source of primary data was the novel Maryam by Okky Madasari, while the source of secondary data was data collected from reference books related to main problems which were the object of research. Research data were social conflict and plot appearing in the novel Maryam by Okky Madasari. The type of this research was descriptive qualitative. Data was collected using reading techniques and note-taking techniques. Data analysis techniques were carried out using three stages, there were identification stage, classification stage, description stage. The results showed that the researcher found the form of plot in the novel Maryam by Okky Madasari was a mixed plot. The original story was the story of Maryam's life in the past (flashback) before she left her home and family. Then the plot changed forward as the writer narrated Maryam's life after returning to her family and living an unexpected life. The plot appeared in this novel was described using mixed plot patterns as follows: the introduction stage (regression plot) - the arising conflict stage (regression plot)-the increasing conflict stage (progressive plot)-the climax stage (progressive plot)-he problem-solving stage (progressive plot)-the completion stage (progressive plot). The plot patterns were explained and proven by researchers based on quotes written in the novel. The form of social conflict that appeared in the novel Maryam by Okky Madasari was analyzed by the researcher using a theory of social conflict by Soerjono Soekanto. After that, it was strengthened by the plot stages contained in the novel, started from the Arising Conflict Stage (problem), the Increasing Conflict Stage, the Climax Stage, the Problem-Solving Stage, and the Completion Stage. Within these stages, there were various forms of conflict formed. The forms of conflict that appeared in this novel were analyzed by the researcher using a theory of social conflict by Soerjono Soekanto to determine the forms of social conflict in the novel Maryam by Okky Madasari. Based on that theory, the researcher concluded that there were only 3 types of social conflicts that appeared in the novel Maryam, there were : (1) conflict due to individual differences, (2) conflict due to cultural differences, (3) conflict due to social changes.
