Abstract

Silkworm pupa (SP) contains high-quality protein. Therefore, in this study, silkworm pupa protein effects on immunity and antioxidant activity in skeletal muscle and liver were examined with 5-week SP fed rats (n = 32). They were divided into four groups as a group fed a normal diet (CON) with exercise training (EX), a group fed a silkworm pupa diet (PP) with an exercise training (PPEX).Liver MDA was also decreased in PP and PPEX compared to the CON. Liver and skeletal muscle SOD was enhanced both in exercise training and Silkworm Pupa diet. TNF-α, NF-κB and IL-6 in liver was suppressed in PP and PPEX. These results suggest that inflammatory cytokines were suppressed by silkworm pupa ingestion and/or exercise training that may inhibit the aging process effectively increasing antioxidant capacity in rats.
