Abstract

Whipple's disease is a very rare systemic disease caused by Tropheryma whippelii. Any organ or tissue can be involved. Presentation is made of a patient with predominantly intestinal symptoms of the disease, i.e. diarrhea, malnutrition due to malabsorption, serous cavity effusions and hepatomegaly. The disease was diagnosed by histologic examination of small intestine mucosa. After 6-month therapy, the patient was free of any discomforts, with almost complete normalization of his laboratory findings.
