Abstract

A new natural carotenoid was isolated from sea sponge Agelas mauritiana. It was shown to be 3-hydroxy-2, 3-didehydro-β, φ-carotene-4-one. The name isotedanin is proposed for this carotenoid and isoclathriaxanthin is proposed as the name for the esterified carotenoid. © 1982, The Japanese Society of Fisheries Science.
