Abstract

Central nervous system toxicity associated with high‐dose cytosine arabinoside (Ara‐C) therapy (HD Ara‐C) is well known. The authors report the case of a severe isolated peripheral polyneuropathy due to HD Ara‐C. Electrophysiologic changes and histologic observations were consistent with axonal degeneration and scattered destruction of myelin sheaths. This observation emphasizes the need for careful complete neurologic evaluation for patients receiving HD Ara‐C treatment. Copyright © 1986 American Cancer Society
