Abstract

A phase-equil. diagram for the system was constructed from data obtained by the quenching method. A region of liq. immiscibility was found extending from about 1.6 to 30.2% BaO and from 868° to above 1500°. Four congruently melting compds. were identified: BaO.4B2O3, m. 879 ± 5°; BaO.2B2O3, m. 900 ± 5°; BaO.B2O3, m. 1095 ± 5°; and 3BaO.B2O3, m. 1383 ± 5°. Optical properties and x-ray diffraction data are tabulated. Only one of the compds. showed an inversion; BaO.B2O3, occurring between 100 and 400°.
