Abstract
This study investigates the influence of physical education on the personality development of university students. Employing a quantitative research design, data were collected from a sample of 120 undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Gujrat using a stratified random sampling technique. A standardized questionnaire, incorporating the Big Five Inventory (BFI-44), was administered to measure personality dimensions. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regressions were used to analyze the data. The results revealed a statistically significant positive correlation (r = 0.65, p < 0.05) between participation in physical education and overall personality development. Regression analysis further indicated that physical education was a significant predictor (β = 0.53, p < 0.05) of personality development, more so than age, academic class, or prior playing experience. The findings underscore the critical role of structured physical education programs in fostering positive personality traits such as conscientiousness, extraversion, and emotional stability. It is recommended that educational institutions enhance their physical education curricula and develop gender-sensitive, age-appropriate interventions to maximize these developmental benefits.
