Abstract
Antecedents: Deformities of the feet are frequent in the general population and in diabetic patients in particular they constitute a risk factor for diabetic feet. Objective: Describe the most common types of acquired deformities of the feet and provide enough elements for their diagnosis. Discussion: For ulceration to develop in the feet the following should be completed: peripheral neuropathy in combination with forefoot deformities and smaller trauma. The main deformities related to the structure of the foot, the alignment and the morphology of the fingers have been described. Conclusions: It has been observed that the increase of pressure to the plantar aspect of the feet in patients with diabetes mellitus, in relation to the general population due to foot deformities constitute one of the biggest and most important factors of ulceration. The hallux valgus is the most frequent and it spreads and progresses, deforming the other fingers. The claw toes are frequent in the cavus foot. The position of the foot in pronation poses a higher risk for ulceration.
