Abstract

We document 2 subfamilies, 6 tribes, 7 genera and 26 species of the Onagraceae in Morelos. Three taxa are new records for the state, namely: Fuchsia fulgens DC., Oenothera biennis L., and O. luciae-julianiae W. L. Wagner. We collected and report a second occurrence of the genus Gongylocarpus in Morelos. The genera Oenothera, Fuchsia and Ludwigia turned out to be the most diverse, with 10, 6 and 4 species, respectively. The 34.6% of the species are endemic to Mexico and have a distribution restricted to the Eje Neovolcánico Transversal. In Morelos, the Onagraceae occur mainly in pine-oak forest and tropical deciduous forest. Some Lopezia and Oenothera species are found in secondary vegetation and disturbed areas, and they may become invasive. A list of the species of the Onagraceae found in Morelos is provided along with a distribution map by municipality and digital photographs of the species in the field.
