Abstract
Plantation productivity was influenced by many factors such as: planting space, light intensity, and species established. Shorea leprosula Miq. was one of the important tree species from Dipterocarpaceae family. During seedling stage S. leprosula needs shading provided by close planting space, and needs wider planting space for the next growth stage. The objective of this research was to identify appropriate planting space to increase S. leprosula growth. The result of this study indicated that diameter of S. leprosula at five years old with planting space 1 m x 1 m, 1.5 m x 1.5 m, 2 m x 2 m, and 3 m x 3 m, are 6.76 cm, 7.45 cm, 8.13 cm, and 11.47 cm respectively. Annual diameter increment observed was 1.27 cm, 1.41 cm, 1.55 cm, and 2.22 cm, respectively.
