Abstract

Unique photo-functionalities of luminescent Eu, Dy: SrAl2O4 glass ceramics with high transparency prepared by using the frozen sorbet technique are briefly reviewed. The crystalglass composites have remarkable light-storage ability (e.g., charge-carrier trapping) based on the properties of SrAl2O4 crystals, and these provide characteristic photo-functionalities such as longpersistent luminescence and mechanoluminescence. In this review, the specific preparation of transparent SrAl2O4 glass composites using the frozen sorbet technique and their optical properties are described as novel light-storage materials for energy applications.
