Abstract
Observations from the Oslo fjord show that the transverse gradients of temperature and density are of the same order of magnitude as those in the longitudinal direction of the fjord. A comparison between current measurements and computed geostrophic current shows good agreement. This indicates that the transverse gradients in fjords should not be neglected. (A)
