Abstract
A procedure for the alkylation of sulfonamides with benzotriazole (I) and aldehydes is reported. Thus, PhSO2NH2 was treated with I and Me2CHCHO in PhH or PhMe with azeotropic removal of H2O to give 84% (sulfonamidoalkyl)benzotriazole II. Treating II with NaBH4 in EtOH gave 71% Me2CHCHRNHSO2Ph (III, R = H), whereas, treating II with PhMgBr in THF gave 96% III (R = Ph). [on SciFinder(R)]
