Abstract

Mid‐infrared hyperbolic phonon polaritons are demonstrated on a van der Waals semiconducting layered oxide, α ‐MoO 3, as described in article number 1705318 by Weiguang Xie, Huanjun Chen, Shaozhi Deng, Ningsheng Xu, and co‐workers. By using a real‐space near‐field optical nanoimaging technique, the phonon polaritons are shown to exhibit ultrahigh electromagnetic‐field confinement, as well as low damping rates, which can be tuned upon metal‐ion intercalation.
