Abstract

A model to estimate the viscosity of aluminosilicate melts, including alkali oxides, was constructed in the present study. The model is based on an earlier model, and considers the bonding state of oxygen in molten silicate and the flow mechanism of melts with a network structure. The straightforward method of Susa et al. to evaluate bonding states of oxygen in chemical compositions was applied to the present model since their method can easily be extended to any multi-component system. The calculation results of our model can express the dependence on viscosity in quaternary aluminosilicates containing alkali oxide and their subsystems. © 2007 ISIJ.
