Abstract

In this paper an exptl. set-up that simulates the actual system was used to study the chem. reactions that take place when mixts. of Et centralite, and some of its daughter products, in cellulose are brought into contact with vapor of nitrogen dioxide. The products studied are Et centralite (EC), 4-nitro-Et centralite (4-NO2-EC), and N-nitroso-ethylaniline (N-NO-NEA). Concn. profiles as a function of added nitrogen dioxide were measured by HPLC. The profiles are interpreted in terms of possible reactions, and the reactivity of each compd. studied towards nitrogen dioxide was obtained by a kinetic model for the decrease of the starting component.
