Abstract

We present a short summary of the legacy of IUE for a variety of topics appropriate for planetary nebulae. These include: UV wavelength and ion identifications; stellar winds and mass loss rates; electron densities and diagnostics; binary nuclei; variability; stratification effects; interstellar extinction; distances: line blanketing; abundances; x- ray and ultra-high excitation emissions; nonradial pulsations; shocks; resonantly excited lines; extragalactic planetaries; and some comments on future directions.
