Abstract

This paper examines dam construction in relation to positive and negative socioeconomic impacts. It is affirmed that Environmental Impact Auditing (EIA) holds the key to lowering negative impacts. It is a well known fact that dam construction impacts are multidisciplinary as climatology, geology, biodiversity, etc are affected, with each having feedback effects. Environmental managers and planners must therefore seek to combat negative impacts of dam construction with the use of cognate Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).
