Abstract

The migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and lymphocytes through the gastric mucosa was studied by electron microscopy. Bacteria were found related to the gastric epithelium. Arguments in favor of these bacteria not being contaminants at the time that the biopsies were taken are presented. The relation between polymorphonuclear leukocyte migration and the occurrence of bacteria is discussed.
