Abstract

This study aims to assess the effect of variations of welding current and bead angle of 60 o and 80 o on the the mechanical properties and the appropriate welding method as a connector for two SS 410 using the SMAW welding method (Shielded Metal Arc Welding). The current variations are 85 A, 90 A, 110 A and groove type with V-angle of 60 o and 80 o. After the spesimen welding process, the microstructure, vickers, and impact strenght were tested. The results obtained showed that the highest hardness value occured in 110 A currents with 80 o angle of motion at 165 VHN in the HAZ region (1) which has ferrite and carbide structure that makes the area hard. The highest value of impact toughness (K) at 60 o angle is occured at 85 A current with a value of 1,294 Joule / mm 2. The highest value of impact toughness (K) at 80 o angel occured at 85 Ampere current with a value of 1,831 Joule / mm 2. Using angle of 80 o with each current of 110 A and 85 A the optimum hardness and impact properties can be obtained
