GORING THE WRONG OX: A DEFENSE OF THE MORTGAGE INTEREST DEDUCTION

Abstract

We do not address the question as to whether the rich pay too little tax or whether, relatively speaking, we have too much housing. What we do argue is that for either concern, eliminating or reducing the mortgage interest deduction is the wrong solution.
