Abstract

The world is facing a climate catastrophe. UN SDG12 sets a target to monitor the environmental performance of tourism. The EU introduced a law banning greenwashing. These developments highlight the need for technologies to capture environmental performance, enabling new improvement solutions to be developed. This study describes existing devices for measuring shower use in hotel rooms; introduces a new device to tourism; and compares devices using newly developed assessment criteria. Results benefit hotels looking for tools to monitor and report their environmental performance, and behavioural scientists designing and testing new interventions aimed at reducing shower time in hotels.
