Emergency Treatment of Suspension Syndrome

Abstract

Suspension trauma is defined as a potentially lethal cardiocirculatory collapse, caused by motionless, almost vertical free hanging in a rope. Persons at risk are climbers, mountaineers and everyone who works using safety ropes (industrial climbers). Fast removal of the patient from the rope is paramount. The on-scene treatment follows the international ABCDE algorithm with laying the patient flat on the ground.
