Abstract

M. mycoides subsp. mycoides grows readily but does not formylate methionyl-transfer ribonucleic acid in a defined medium without an added formyl donor. Formylation occurs when the medium is supplemented with N5,N10-methenyltetrahydrofolate or N10-formyltetrahydrofolate, but not with folate.
