Abstract

Chemical laboratory waste contained toxic and hazardous contaminants. The source of waste was from laboratory practice, research and student creativity program (PKM) activities. During this time, liquid waste was thrown away to container without pre- treatment so it can pollute the surrounding environment due to the high value of BOD, COD and TSS. Therefore, liquid waste processing equipment is needed to minimize environmental pollution. Alternative treatment to solve this problem was using alternative liquid waste processing instrument with filtration and adsorption method. The purpose of this research was to manufacture / design of alternative liquid waste treatment instrument using filtration and adsorption method and obtained the efficiency of the alternative instrument in reducing the contamination level of laboratory liquid waste. The research method included analysis of BOD, COD, and TSS of liquid waste before and after processing. The results showed that the efficiency of alternative liquid waste processing instrument in reducing the concentration of BOD, COD, and TSS of chemical laboratory liquid waste are 64.12%, 80.78%, 85.35%.
