The research work developed in the public market of Barranquilla in the years of 2015 and 2016 is reported, applying the SWOT matrix in order to determine the economic, social and environmental potential of informal and stationary sales in the sector, facing the policies established by the mayor of Barranquilla regarding its relocation, recovery of public space, strengthening of the environmental quality of the sector. It was found that there is a strong weakness in aspects associated with entrepreneurship, basic sanitation, security in the sector and competitive structure compared to the stores present in the commercial sector of the city.
