Abstract

Evaluating the level of road damage is crucial to ensure the safety and comfort of road users and extend the service life of road infrastructure. This study aims to evaluate the road damage conditions on S. Parman Road, Sei Beduk, Batam City, using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method. The PCI method is used to measure the extent of road surface damage based on the type, severity, and quantity of existing damage. The evaluation results show various types of damage, such as cracks, potholes, and surface deformations, which affect the overall road condition. Based on the PCI values obtained, the road conditions are categorized into specific levels requiring appropriate treatments. This study also provides recommendations for handling, including minor repairs, routine maintenance, and full reconstruction, to improve road quality and reduce the risk of further damage. The implementation of this study's findings is expected to assist the local government in planning and executing more effective and efficient road maintenance programs. The level of damage on S. Parman Road in Batam varies from low, medium, to high. Low-level damage includes longitudinal and transverse cracks at Km 0+710. Medium-level damage, such as alligator cracking, occurs at Km 0+000, while high-level damage is found at Km 0+050 with severe alligator cracking.
