Abstract
We report how one-dimensional nanomagnets can be used to manipulate paramagnetic particles located in liquid systems. It is shown that by using an asymmetric magnetic potential well, single particles can be efficiently sorted out from a one-dimensional array and moved along the phase boundary confining the array. © 2008 American Institute of Physics.
