Abstract

This article aimed to apply a multi-attribute decision-making technique, technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS), to prioritize four locations, namely, Aktau, Fort Shevchenko, Zhanaozen, and Atyrau in Kazakhstan for the installation of wind-powered reverse osmosis desalination systems. In this regard, different criteria were considered for ranking the alternatives. Among the considered criteria, the need for desalinated water and land availability earned the highest scores from the experts, representing the highest importance. According to the implemented analysis based on the TOPSIS, Aktau ranked first among these alternatives, followed by Fort Shevchenko, Atyrau, and Zhanaozen.
