Abstract

We report the synthesis of unique Al 2 O 3 nanocapsules by high-energy-electron irradiation of Na-dawsonite and a formation mechanism different from thermal decomposition which usually produces NaAlO 2. The novel decomposition process may open up a shortcut for fabricating hollow nanostructures.
