Abstract

The author discusses the pay-per-view (PPV) model of library access to materials in electronic formats. He focuses on the lack of perpetual access rights in PPV . He mentions that budget cuts make PPV an option since patrons expect broad and speedy access to journal content. He discusses other ways in which libraries can maintain access and reduce costs such as access to journals through full-text aggregators and discontinuing memberships in archiving initiatives, such as PORTICO and LOCKSS Alliance.
