Abstract

The incidence of brain tumor in the newborn is extremely low. Choroid plexus papilloma of neuroectodermal origin has been reported in only nine cases, including the present case. Early diagnosis of brain tumor in the newborn is difficult. In addition, there are many difficult factors in the operative treatment of choroid plexus papilloma because of its tendency to hemorrhage and malignancy. Interestingly, a neuroepithelial cyst developed in the posterior fossa following the first operation. We report the present case as an extremely interesting one since the development of neuroepithelial cyst and choroid plexus papilloma appeared to have a common origin on the basis of histological findings, as well as other clinical observations. © 1984, Kurume University School of Medicine.
