Abstract

From the dried leaves of Syzygium aromaticum merr.et perry (Myrtaceae), eleven new compounds, i.e., eugenol (17), 2-methyl-5,7-dihydroxychromone (18) and its 6’-0-gallate (19), 2,4,6-trihydroxyacetophenone (20) and its 2’-O- (21), (22), 2’,3’-di-0- (23), (24), 2’,3’,6’-tri-0- (25), 2’,3’,4’,6’-tetra-0-gallate (26) and ester (27) were isolated, together with sixteen known tannins and related compounds. The structures of these compounds were established on the basis of spectroscopic and chemical evidence. © 1993, The Pharmaceutical Society of Japan. All rights reserved.
