Abstract
This paper addresses the relationship between the nation state and the management of cultural diversity in the Latin American context, characterized by the construction of a non-homogeneous national identity. The recognition of a multinational State is the result of the claims of national minorities and in turn the concept of citizenship and the role of the citizen. In this sense, intercultural dialogue becomes a reaction to uniform policies and a space of coexistence between all cultures. The implementation of intercultural policies implies not only the recognition of difference, but a new model of social coexistence based on cultural exchange.
