Abstract

IT vendors are moving closer towards the ideal of being able to hold both recipe and process information in one enterprise IT (ERP) system, enabling any manufacturer to produce anything anywhere by downloading to local plant-based control systems. However, it is cautioned that this is all theory, rather than fact. An important element that needs to be in place is integration between plant and business systems.
