As lendas de Timor e a literatura oral timorense

Abstract

Lendas, mitos e contos são produtos da imaginação humana e elementos necessários à existência das sociedades humanas. Neste artigo, pretende-se identificar e caracterizar os géneros de literatura oral timorense (lendas, contos, mitos, provérbios e anedotas) expressos na forma de textos. Consideram-se estes materiais como fontes primárias de memória colectiva e nacional que revelam a existência de um povo no espaço e no tempo ; e como fontes da história relativa a factos e acontecimentos em tempos remotos. Por isso, importa aos timorenses preocupar-se com a sua cultura e as suas tradições enquanto fontes de riqueza da nação que devem ser exploradas e desenvolvidas na literatura escrita.Legends, myths, and tales are the product of human imagination and necessary elements of human societies. This article seeks to identify and characterize the genres of Timorese oral literature (legends, tales, myths, proverbs, anecdotes) expressed in textual form. These materials are considered, on the one hand, as primary sources of collective and national memory that reveal the existence of a people in space and time; and, on the other hand, as sources of history regarding remote facts and events. Therefore, culture and tradition are important concerns of the East Timorese, as they constitute a source for the nation that should be explored and developed in written literature.
