Abstract

Various methods are being used in clinical studies and daily practice to assess the severity of acne and acne scars. Methods based on determining the number of lesions are definitive and objective but also time consuming. Global grading methods involve relatively easily administered severity scales by which the severity of acne/acne scar is measured through a universal assessment. The extent to which patients are affected by acne emotionally and socially can be evaluated by means of quality of life scales. Advanced imaging techniques and artificial intelligence being developed to increase objectivity and reliability and to record clinical appearence are still expensive and difficult to acquire.
