L'insularité océanienne dans la cosmogonie maohi

Abstract

The topic of this paper deals with an exploration of the Maohi cosmogonie conception of land. The question is to know if, in the Oceanian insular world, there is a Maohi model of «terra firma» defined as an entity independent from its marine environment. We conclude that there is no such an individualisation of land which is perceived as a marine beeing belonging to a universally oceanic space. We shall see, then, that this Oceanian conception of the world has attended, or even enabled, the Maohi exploration and populating of the Pacific central area.Cet article se propose d'explorer la définition cosmo- gonique maohi de la terre. L'hypothèse de travail consistait à se demander si dans le monde insulaire océanien il existait un modèle maohi de la terre ferme définie comme une entité autonome de son environnement maritime. Nous démontrerons qu'il n'existe pas une telle individualisation de la terre, et que celle-ci est considérée comme un être marin inscrit dans un espace qui est universellement océanique. Nous verrons alors que cette conception océanienne du Monde a pu accompagner, voire permettre, l'exploration et le peuplement maohi du centre du Pacifique.
